Tomorrow or Wednesday they might start to get one of the Chilean Miners out every 2 hours or so.

Thanksgiving day here in Canada so that seems like a good time for it.

I think that before we go up into space, it makes more sense to work out how to develop undergound.

Surely the technology would be cheaper and easier and the value to the world would be much greater in the short term of decades.

There more underground cities than you might believe.
They have all kind of secret bunkers so the government
will survive, they don't care about the rest of the population.
Some private wealthy people may have bunkers, who knows
the construction guys. You alway hear about things 20 years later
when someone write a book. There are a lot salt and gold mines
that are very big. The missiles are under ground, the military
have alot of underground stuff, maybe a member can tell us about
a few after all these years,no longer secret. Maybe overseas too,
China may be secrets and Russia. The Swiss Is sneaky about there
stuff,I hear every swiss citizen Is a member of the military. The
coal miners are very lucky they were In the right country, some
countries may left them saying It was cave In with no survivors.
The world will be watching the next few weeks.

The miners are all out now, and I think the Medic they lowered down to check them out before they came up is out too.

I was just thinking of the overtime they clocked down there.

I wonder how they will cope physically. They have been stuck in a constant high temperature in low light for a long time.

Like being in a sub, 60-70 days continually submerged. After a good shower, a few drinks and some quality time at home, all is good.

The submarine Is a good comparison, some of the same things.
Some one knowing you are down there and missing. You have to be located.
Then the comparison change, depending on the depht of the water.
The submarine would be more deadly, air to many elements that you not
have on ground. I think some where In the world they recovered a submarine,
for the bodies for the families, then sent It to the bottom again.

Yes the sub is a good comparison. Another point that matches is that the miners would all be in good shape, and most navy submariners would be in reasonably good shape.

That helps a lot with coping and adjustment.

The submariners have a lot more time to adjust to
Isolated conditions. They are tested for there ability
to handle the stress before being accepted. Miners, maybe
someone on the forum know a miner or about mining
operations. I was surprised that this post got so few post
    during the recovery.

I am also surprised that no -one mentions the outstanding engineering operation by the South African company - Murray and Roberts. It obviously proves the country's superior experiance in very deep mining opereations.
