When the switch is closed the transistor turns on.
This can only happen if the diode conducts, this happens because the capacitor initially goes negative when the switch is closed?

Am I right?

Very difficult homework for me.
What's the purpose of this circuit?

May be if the switch is closed the transistor turns on.
But why is the value of capacitor is negative?
Is it possible to have a negative value?
