Do any capacitance testers actually give a reading in uF ? I need to find the value of one of a set ( one is still good, but they say I need two in series)( can one larger one take two's place? )of two start caps for a 5 hp Ajax, 1 ph, 208-230 motor, as one is loose at its connector point. Also, can this be re-soldered? They are so old that we cannot read any numbers. Maybe someone already knows the required values? How accurate is the 'kick' on an analog meter? I would buy a digital if they actually read a value, perhaps.

For your first question; yes, there're meters who can mesure capacitance in uF. Also, you can use one large cap to replace two in parallel if you know the are for the same purpose. You can resolder those caps, or you can simply replace them with equivalent caps if you know the specs of those. For the value and the kick... it all depends what the total circuit is.
