In everything that I can think of besides MOSFETs, the source is located above the drain. Other wise, the drain wouldn't drain, would it? I suppose electrons are not subject to the laws of gravity.

 

I guess it depends on the drafter. I've seen drawings with the cathode above and below the anode ... like in push pull vacuum tube amplifiers. Why can't MOSFETs be treated in the same manner?

Is there a standard, ANSI or otherwise, that defines how a diagram should be done?

I try to draw my trannies so conventional current flows from top to bottom. PMOS then has the source on top.

And then somebody will come and tell you that in some JFETs, S and D could be reversed and you will not know where to stick them...
