I have created a new library component in Eagle from scratch but cannot seem to connect to the pins.

The symbol, package and device were created on 0.1" grid.
Whether I use wire or net to connect to the pin makes no difference.
When I move the device around the wires are not connected to the pin.
What am I doing wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I've experienced the same thing from time to time. Along with some ERC errors that I know I've fixed.

Usually I save my work, close Eagle, and start it again. Then everything is back to normal.

I've made all of these mistakes at one time or another..

When creating the symbol:
Use the PIN command, not a wire.
The connect end has the green circle around it and that should be away from the package symbol. Use the pin toolbar to assign its direction and swap level.

In the package layout, make sure the pins/pads are named as pins (default names look like P$1 etc).

When creating a device, load the symbol and package and click CONNECT to assign symbol names to pads on the package.

I haven't encountered what nerdegutta mentioned but sounds like something to try as well.

When connecting in the schematic, be sure you are on the NETS layer.

Good luck!

Ok, the problem is fixed.:)

I had the pins pointing the wrong way. The green bubble has to point out. Silly me.

Thanks John. See, it wasn't so dumb advice after all. Never sell yourself short.
