The two disks inside change resistance with temperature.
Most likely it is used to control current through the degaussing coil. When you first turn on a CRT type TV, for the first 2 seconds current flows through a coil around the CRT that removes the magmatism from the CRT. This device starts out cold with low resistance and a large amount of current flows. In a short time the part gets hot and the resistance increases reducing the current down to almost zero.

In picture #2, what you have is the Thermistor and Varistor.

One of the discs is connected across the incoming power line to act as a heater to make sure the one that positive temperature coefficient in series with the load stays hot after the degaussing step has finished so that the magnetic field from the degaussing coil will not cause problems with the quality of the displayed image.
