Calculating with geometry

The even more ancient Egyptians used geometry a couple of thousand years before the Greeks. Their tombs and temples are some very impressive examples.

(reminds me of the other thread where we talked about this more).
That's because we have the strange idea that somehow people that lived 2000 years or more ago had to be somehow dumber than we are now. It is not so much that the brain has progressed so much as it is the technology that comes from years of trial and error.
Many of the people who push ancient alien intervention are AUTHORS who need to sell books. That is always something that had turned me off. But the worst thing is that they push the idea that mankind could not come up with anything on their own because they were too stupid to do so. We dont give people who lived a long time ago enough credit for their ingenuity.
When you have thousands of people with nothing else to do but farm they start coming up with new ideas and some of them are in great power so they want to do big things. They are not stupid by any sense of the word, they just do not have the history of technology developed yet. So it is like they are fairly intelligent but only have so much to work with so far. They will come up with some amazing things. IF all we had to work with were rocks, sticks and mud, we'd come up with some amazing things too. Trial and error works pretty well when you have lots of time on your hands.
Another thing that is amazing is that they did not come up with any skyscrapers despite the large structures they built. Those things as large as they are could not house that many people even though they were gigantic. That wasnt because they were stupid though it was just because they didnt have the technology yet.
This is all still interesting to think about though.
