i am looking for a circuit design book which explains purpose of the different components used in a circuit.

is there any good book that covered analog and digital circuit together?

One of the best books is "The Art of Electronics" Paul Horowitz, Winfield Hill. Now in its third edition. Still available from Amazon.

I have the 1985 version and still dig into it occasionally.

 

CMOS circuit design, layout and simulation cover mixed signal circuit design with emphasis on analog circuit as well as digital circuit. It is really a very good book to start with.
