I can relate to the skeeters. We used to run behind the jeep with the fogger back in 1952 and get saturated with DDT & whatever other crud it pumped out. Used to watch Douglas TBD's spray oil into the mangrove swamps.

Life might have been less safe or well-protected, but you didn't have as much to worry about, commies and atom bombs aside.

 

The firemen kept dogs and pet animals at the fire house,on regular
basis off duty they would take us to the river light a big fire so we
could find our way out. Turn the hound loose and let run ,they would get so far a head you hardly hear them. Once they treed a racoon we would catch up,nothing better in life. They would pay us a nickel to hot peppers,
there sadistic fun.But we always had a place at meal time,no funny

Coiming out of the everglades 2:00 am in jeep under water ,no contact with
outside world the exhaust going momp-moop-moop-if jeep had stalled
????????.Note-you can tell deep water by the type of water lily.You
don't go without a homeboy that was raised on the weekends from a kid.
I hunt with a camera,I don't beleave in killing wildlife.The jeep (a duce) stayed
at the camp.When the lease onwers died ,the land go back to everglades.That a good thing.
Beenthere two worked for the Government can go on restricted land.

Benethere two- Water skier,horse shoes,in college walked the high wire,
bonus aloud to do the trapeze. Go to my blog.Forgot, sticking along in a
john boat,when a goose hit me in the middle of the back almost drown me.
A lot ot time on electronics,have not benethere.Poking around asking
questions about gaming machines,the adult education dept. started a
class to repair gaming machine if you need a job in Fla check it out,there
is a shortage.
