Battery Won't Charge

I have an IBM Thinkpad 600E, I have purchased a new battery and charger from laptops for less but the battery will not charge!!! There are four connectors on the battery pack plug in, the outside connector is negative, the inside connector is positive. What are the two middle connectors for?? Where can I get a schematic for this laptop computer?? Could my power jack be bad??
