Audio sensor to relay

I'm not really sure of the options out there, but I'm sure there are many.

I am looking to have an audio signal control a motor; a speaker line-in control and a relay or transistor to power a 12v motor.

I have used color organs in the past but know there must be something much simpler, and preferably in DC rather than AC.

The audio will simply be tone and pause like Morse Code, coming from an Ipod. Would the current of this tone be enough to switch a transistor or relay? Or, do i need to amplify or filter the signal within a circuit?
