Ammeters in vol 1 has a problem. In the middle of the article a switching circuit is described to allow changing ranges with various shunts and a 1ma meter movement. There's a line in the verbage that states, "of course, only one resistor at a time can be chosen." If you wire up that circuit as described, as soon as you begin to move from one shunt to another, you will momentarily be between shunts with no shunt across the 1ma meter. This puts the full current flow of the measured circuit through the little meter. With luck, it will just go up in smoke, at worst, someone could get hurt when it blows up. This circuit needs a "make before break" switch. Othern' that, it looks good.

 

I think the ammeter in Vol-1 DC if for describing the working principal of ammeters.It only for study purpose to show new students that how ammeters works.

If anybody after learning want to built a meter they could reffer to Vol-6 Experiments at section "Make your own multimeter".

 

Then there should be a disclaimer stating that, "This is how it works but don't try it!" As sure as I'm sitting here, some noob will try it.

AAC bends over backwards with warnings and thread closings over anything remotely unsafe. Keep it that way.
