AMD Processor over temp

Hello,

Did you assemble the PC yourself?
If so did you use thermal grease between the CPU and cooler?
If you forgot to use the thermal grease the cooling performance will be bad and lead to a much higher tamperature.

No. I didn't assemble pc myself. Last week for the first time I was trying to overclock my cpu and I noticed this high temperature issue. Actually few months back I had problem with my ATX supply. At that time, while replacing my ATX as a curious exercise I dismantled my CPU from chassis and did some cleaning and put it back without thermal paste(That was really lame!!). Last week while reading something on overclocking I came to know about thermal paste then I immediately did the correcting action, applied thermal paste. FYI without thermal paste my cpu temp was reaching over 80C. Now it goes to above level. What is the exact issue??? Do I need to use another better quality thermal paste?

Stock cooler that came with PIB(Processor In a Box). CPU fan setting is kept for high performance.

Hello,

Are the cooler and fan free of dust?
Dust can give a low performance of the cooler and fan.

Are the case fans free of dust also?

Hello,

I have the exact same proc. in one of my builds, awesome performance for the price.
First thing i did was replace the stock cooler, notoriously loud fan...

This is what i went w/ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233081

You have to have a full size case cause it's huuuge, but very effective
Also suggest pick up some http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007

And use this guide for thermal paste applicationhttp://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...sk=view&id=170&Itemid=38&limit=1&limitstart=5

With this cooler and paste it idles a few degrees above room temp and maxes out around 48C

If you still have issues i suggest you check out this forum http://www.techsupportforum.com/ i stalk it also :)

Pic is my setup,i have the HHD pulled at the moment to use in another project so it's a little messy.

Best of luck,

I really don't know how to check that 'dust' issue:confused:. On the exterior it looks fine:p. And in case if it is full of dust how can I clean it up?? I can always try cleaning. By the ways that's what cause this mess-Cleaning the highly efficient thermal grease and running processor for this long without it. Fortunately my processor didn't fry.:D

Hello,

I use a aerosol to blow out the dust, like Dust off 67 from kontakt chemie.
http://www.soselectronic.com/?str=371&artnum=33205

Hold the fan still when you are using the aerosol, as the fan may generate a voltage that can distroy other parts as it turns by the flow.

The dust can collect between the fins of the cooler and block the airflow.

You know, i just noticed you reside in India.

So maybe one critical piece of info missing from your post.

What is the air temp in the room w/ the PC?

I have seen post regarding cooling pc in rooms w/ less the adequate AC.

Most involved liquid,active(TEC) cooling..

There is a possibility the readings are wrong, because the 965 has a max temp of 62c.

At 7O+ c you should be experiencing shutdowns and general erratic behavior.

What Mainboard are you using?

It may need a bios update to read correctly .

Clean all the dust by removing the sink.

Use arctic silver heat sink compound and properly sit the heat sink.
re-check by removing and observing that the compound has properly spread across the processor.

If not spread then u need to to find the sink is not seated. If OK then re-apply compound and mount the sink.

Generally around 26/27C. But that may not be an issue.

ASUS m4a88TDM-EVO

How to update BIOS?

Hello,

Wich version of the phenom chip do you have?

Rich (BB code):
Phenom IIX4 965 (HDZ965FBK4DGI),3.4GHz,140W,rev.C2,SocketAM3,Quad-Core ALL
1003

Phenom IIX4 965 (HDZ965FBK4DGM),3.4GHz,125W,rev.C3,SocketAM3,Quad-Core ALL
1003
The C2 version (140 Watt) will create more heat as the C3 version (125 Watt).
The chip is supported from bios version 1003 and up.

See this page for more info:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A88TDM/

Under the tab download you will find drivers and manuals.

I suppose C3 because with HW monitor my processor power dissipation goes around 117-118W

I had this problem with my overheating AMD processor, it would run for 5 minutes then crash Windows. I took out the heatsink and it was completely clogged with dust. I used a paint brush to get out the dust and it was then fine.
