I guess what I am unsure about is how the AC configuration works. Is the magnetic field of the stator constant or is it changing direction?? If it changes direction how does the rotation of the rotor fit in in order to provide the required AC output to the load??
Normally the rotor is either a permanent magnet or an electromagnet energised by DC. As the rotor turns, the coils on the fixed stator experience a changing and reversing magnetic field and induce AC voltage.
