Hi

I need to know if the air bags in the car are inflated

I guess this data runs over CAN but i can't detect it via regular sniffing (crash the car???)

can anyone advise?

If the air bags are inflated, you would soon know it and it would be readily visible!
I am assuming you mean armed?
Some vehicles it can be read using a cheap CANbus monitor at the test socket using a laptop.
The front A.B.'s usually have a pendulum type inertia switch as well as the front impact ones in the fender area.
