That depends on what distinction you have in mind.

It's a forum, but in the Homework Help subforum the goal is to help students figure out how to solve their own problems and not just give out answers, which seldom accomplishes much in the way of learning.

When someone just posts a problem and makes no effort to show an attempt at a solution, they tend to get a bit of grief -- sometimes more and sometimes less depending on the general mood and how rampant such posts have been recently.

What we want to see is some their best effort at working the problem -- it doesn't have to be correct or complete -- that we can use to see what they are thinking and where they seem to be getting stuck or going wrong. We then try to give them nudges in the right direction.
