Hey guys,

I have a device that requires 9VDC @2A and the jack is center (+). The adapter that was included with it shorted out. I ordered a supposed "replacement" adapter and when it arrived, the electrical requirements were correct but the plug does not fit the jack in the device (it was too large).

Today, I found an AC to AC adapter and the plug does fit the jack. If I cut the plug portion from the AC-AC adapter and attach it to the AC-DC adapter, would the device work?

Not necessarily! The widget could be generating a split supply. In which case DC would *not* work (only one supply would be generated.)

 

I don't know where you got the idea that "9VDC" and "center positive" means there are 3 wires to the connector.

My error.

I thought he was intending to replace a 9VDC adapter with a 9VAC adapter. That would probably result in smoke.

But now I read it, I see he meant he was just cutting off the plug.
