I have a motor - 6spd, single phase, 110-120V, 50-60Hz, AC with ten wires.

I assume that to run it on high speed I will connect the Hot lead to the brown wire (speed-6).

My Question: which wire do I connect the neutral wire to?

blue - speed 1
white - speed 2
red - speed 3
orange - speed 4
green - speed 5
brown - speed 6
black - ????????????????? I don't know what this wire is for.
two yellow wires - capacitor
yellow with green stripe - ground

 

I would assume the Black is the AC neutral in this case, and the speeds are selected changing the the one presently connected to Brown to any of the other speeds?

I just tried neutral to black and hot to brown, but the motor only hummed. Did not run.

 

Is the capacitor terminated internally?
Test for the pair with maximum resistance first.
Another config for PSC motor is similar to (b)

I am not sure ally means. The capacitor is shown below, The motor was connected to some digital circuitry, but I cut it out, and want to have the direct wiring with a toggle switch to turn it onto high speed.

If the pics do not answer your question, can you tell me which leads to test for resistance?

I know how to set to ohms and read ohms, but I do not understand which two leads I am supposed to touch the leads to?

I included pics of:

2. cuircuit diagram on digital housing
3. capacitor
4. circuit board

Note, I have cut out the circuit board and want to go from 120v direct to the motor without the circuit board at all. Single speed (high).

You may have a problem, it looks like the board switched in winding combinations various pole configurations.
If you still have the board, test from the two LH conductors (White & Blk AC in?) and see if any directly connect to any of the speed selection on the motor connections, it might be easier to remove the stake on connections first.
