My requirement is to operate one IR LED and a Photodiode. But i dont think the current of 10mA from RS232 port is sufficient for that.Any idea about that?How much current are you looking for? The amount will always be limited because it is coming from driver pins designed to be signal sources not power sources.

Most of the newer LEDs put out plenty of light at less then 10ma. Try one at say 3ma and see if your photodiode gets enough light to function.My requirement is to operate one IR LED and a Photodiode. But i dont think the current of 10mA from RS232 port is sufficient for that.Any idea about that?
