I'm interested in using one of those CC1101 based transceivers directly with a PC. For this I think the RS232 version would probably be easiest. However, I want to be able to directly access the chip for configuration with SmartRF Studio software. The RS232 version appears to interface with the CC1101 through an atmel chip. Does this limit my ability to configure the device? If it does, then I'd like to get the native SPI version. What is the simplest most minimal device I can use to interface with SPI through USB that will work with that software?

EDIT: The title was meant to say RS232.
