    Hey folks.
So I am rather new to this but I have idea to undertake the building of a fun project and was wondering if someone could help. Ideally I would like to have a button which would light up a series of led lights for 30 seconds, and then turn off the leds automatically. The LEDs would be lit with a +5 V power source.

Can this sort of things be done? What woud I need to do it? how may LEDS could I use? Are there any existing schematics that exist in order for me to built this?

I thank you very much for your input on this fun project.

A good beginning project with 555 IC. You can drive up to 10 red LEDs @ 20mA from pin 3 of a 555. With 5V supply & 2.5V , red, LEDs, each LED will need a 100 to 120 ohm current limiting resistor tied to 555 output.
