I've got a stereo apart on the bench and it has a blown 2sb560e transistor in the power section (sansui 8080DB). Unfortunately, I don't have any on hand. But I do have some 2sb560f transistors. Can I substitute the F ofr the E?

They seem to be the same in the data sheets except for the Hfe. The "e" is 100 and the "f" is 160. Will putting out more gain on the collector/emitter be too much of a difference?

I'd appreciate it if you woudl easy on me if this is considered a stupid question. I'm still considered an amateur at this type of thing.

 

Check the circuit diagram and make sure that it isn't one of a pair. If so replace them both.
Otherwise you should be OK. A good designer will ensure his design will cope with quite a wide spread of hfe.

 

So someone who knows more about the circuit than me says the transistor in question is basically employed as a voltage regulator in the circuit and that the higher HFE of the "F" version won't make a difference.....sound right?
