Passive Wi-Fi Enabled Switch

Hi all,

I have a boiler with a self-powered, 5-volt thermostat line. It functions in a very simple manner: it is constantly sending 5v of electricity through the circuit. If the circuit is closed, it turns on. If the circuit is open, it turns off.

I’d like to install a smart thermostat but, unfortunately, don’t believe that’s possible with this set up. (No other A/C system to hook it up to. Someone let me know if I’m wrong, but I’ve tried every model of Nest and Ecobee (and other) smart thermostat and none work; they all need some form of c-wire to scavenge power from and can’t seem to work with a single, simple 5v thermostat circuit). Instead, I’d settle for a remote operated Wi-Fi switch, so I could turn the thermostat on remotely, as I drive to the house, so it’s warm when I get there.

Does anyone know of a product that will accomplish this for me? If so, where can I find it? Thank you!!

Here's one, (thermostat) for example, that can operate off batteries and control a low voltage system.
Here's the installation guide which discusses its operation.

A search for battery powered, WiFi thermostats, will likely find you more.
