I have used ZIGBEE mesh networks with great sucess. Any node can talk to any node. We could reach 10 miles by hopping from one node to the next, to the next.
I am playing with a "TP-LINK" products that make a mesh network for PCs.
Because all 6 nodes have the same name and address a cell phone or lap-top computer will move from one point to another without a hiccup.
The nodes can only talk to the first node. There is no hopping from one node to another. Very disappointing.
Before you install a mesh network, no matter what the picture on the box shows, check to see if it will work the way you think.

At this time, I think wireless cameras will not work with TP-LINK mesh networks.
It is a good idea to get on forums and read what problems people are fighting with before spending money.

 

LoRaWAN is very promising, but it's IoT territory, like Zigbee.

Current developments make LoRaWAN even more interesting, including actual flying right now satellites.
