Hello Everybody,

I need some basics electronics help.
I want to replace the bulb on 16mm viewer Zeiss Moviscop with an LED.

What else do I need? I am decent soldering but don't know how to control the circuit voltage? I probably need a potentiometer, transistors?

Are you okay with it being only 1/3rd as bright as the current bulb?
Seems like bulb is 500 lumens and LED is 180 lumens max.

Do you have a circuit board for this? ie did you buy the one already soldered to the hex pcb w/external resistors,etc..
What are your plans for heatsinking? This will burn up in a very short time without proper heatsinking.
What country are you in? (ie what is your typical wall outlet voltage)

but i dont know what other parts i'd need - I don't know anything about heatsinking?

 

I have no idea why you linked to those parts.. Show us where someone did this conversion with those.. The first is a motor controller for a motorized headlight like you find on a Lexus,etc..

Now.. We need to be careful because as it stands this discussion could go against the rules of this forum. No mains powered LED's. (This LED is intended as a mains powered LED). It is intended for LED lightbulb companies that know what they are doing as far as safety is concerned. It is in encased into a purpose build heatsink/lens,etc.. and this ensures its no more dangerous than a regular light bulb. Still want to proceed?

Now before you go any further I hope you know that this project will probably cost you more money/time than you will save by switching to an LED versus that bulb. Do you still want to proceed?

There are also much better choices as far as which LED to use and why...

That exact motor controller was linked to a potentiometer so that the LED could be adjusted for brightness. The LED was attached to the inside of the Moviscop viewer, possibly with an epoxy? I don't think any fan was installed. I believe the fuse was also disconnected? There's a knob on the moviscop that lets you adjust the fuse for the AC mains. According to that manual, there is a built-in condensor that absorbs approx 70% of the heat from the bulb without any loss of light.

Should just drop right in.. (I'd check to make sure the voltage is below 30V at the bayonet base but it should be)
