Can a 3-terminal lithium phone battery be charged externally?

I think my smart phone is dead. It started behaving erratically, so I opened it to check the removable battery. It was a balloon.
A new battery which appears good, with 3.9vdc on the terminals, does not work. Phone will not turn on, no charging. Initial attempt to charge got an error message. I have another battery on order since the one I just got took 3 months to get.

Thus I may have 2 new 4100mah batteries and nothing to use them in. They have +, -, and an unmarked terminal.
Can I use a charging circuit like https://www.banggood.com/10-Pcs-TP4...-p-1255764.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN and ignore the third terminal?

Thanks

The unmarked terminal is a thermal sensor.

You can charge the battery and if it isn't a bad fake it will have a protection board in it that will prevent overcharge. There are universal battery chargers that use sliding contacts to fit various terminal configurations like this:

https://www.amazon.com/DigiPower-TC-U450-Universal-Battery-Charger/dp/B009JXZS8S/

Or, if you research further you can use a variable supply with current limiting to charge it.

That charger you linked to is perfect ... It will charge any capacity Li 3.6V ... you could wire your two cells in parellel and charge with that circuit , a large capacity cell will just take longer to charge.
Sorry, somehow I completely missed the link in the TS post to a charger.

I would say, though, that chargers I linked to are going to be a lot easier to use, but the TS link is fine if more trouble.

Thanks for catching that!

Thanks.
It looks like I may be using the one I linked to since my batteries are a bit too wide for the ones you linked to. I'll look around to see what other universal chargers are available.

They do work well. They detect polarity and make things easy. I hope you find one. Otherwise, you can use what you linked, it will work.

Here's the charger I got awhile ago: https://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-Batter...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

The box is labeled: Universal Charger Model SS-8 Yibo Yuan. It shipped from California and hence was probably a little more expensive than from China.

Looks similar what Yaakov posteed. I was a bit skeptical about it being "universal." Tried it and it worked. After charging, I confirmed by multimeter that the cell was no overcharged.

I, too, was skeptical but in use it's been great. I charge a variety of batteries with it, and sometimes it's th only charger in my camera bag.
