Awkward... There was a notification of a new post, I saw that new post, someone offering an OKI M(SM)6295, but I can't find that wholepost back now. When I tried to reply on that new comment, I got an error message. Did someone restore a back-up of something?

Hi. Still looking? I found my TI Digitalker Speech Education Module - a demonstration board the the processor and roms. Works!
I am going to use the board in a project or two, but am concerned that the 1982 eproms may start to loose bits. Perhaps a copy of them would help?

When you have the original ROMs, they won't lose bits, I'd say. EPROM's indeed might lose their contents, so you could saveguard the data and keep on the shelf so you can burn a new EPROM in the future (or any other non-volatile memory).

Do you know if your EPROM contains the contents of some of the standard ROM's, or was it custom vocabulary?

Attached is the standard vocabulary ROM that I have.

Please be aware that the VM61002 is not a Digitalker ROM, but a ROM for a TI speech synthesizer (I believe the TMS5100 / 5200 / 5220 if memory serves me correctly, can't look it up at this moment.) Dumps of some of these ROMs can be found online btw. Sibblings are the VM61001/2/3/4/5 and as far as I recall VM7100X. These chips are hard to find.

I wonder which ones you have...

And... I have collected quite some information over the years, but have never seen this wordlist in this (original as it seems) format. It seems to come from a databook? Do you you know if this page, or other pages of related ROMs, or the whole databook can somewhere be found online? Would definitely like to have a look at it ;-)

HI George,
Attached are the first page of the manual, the introduction page, and the first page of the bill of materials.
You are right, is not a "digitalker", but the TMS5220 voice synthesis processor, with TMS6100 voice synthesis memory.
I will take a picture of the circuit board tonight, and note which ones are the UV eproms.

Interesting, never seen or heard about this document before. Do you own the full document and can you scan it? A TMS7000 processor is needed judging by the BOM, might be hard to get hold of...

Speech ROMs:

VM61001 1981 TMS5220 Random Phrases demo rom (heathkit et4000) 16KiB TMS5220
VM61002 1982 TMS5220 Industrial Vocabulary (Electronics/Measurement words) demo rom 16KiB TMS5220
VM61003 1982 TMS5220 Time/Weather demo rom 16KiB TMS5220
VM61004 1982 TMS5220 Military demo rom 16KiB TMS5220
VM61005 1982? TMS5220 Avionics demo rom 16KiB TMS5220
VM61006 1982? TMS5220? ? words 16KiB TMS5220?
VM71001 1982 TMS5220? ? words 4KiB? TMS5220?
VM71002 1982 TMS5220? ? words 4KiB? TMS5220?
VM71003 1982 TMS5220? clock words, female cockney accent 4KiB TMS5220?

As far as I recall, the majority was dumped and I stored the dumps. Let me know if you need them and I'll start searching on my NAS. Unfortunately I only have a couple of VM61004's (for myself and fo swapping) and 1 x VM61002.

Don't know why I thought it was a Digitalker. Got this board in the early 80s and hid it away. Was very happy to find out it still worked.
Here are images of the box, the entire board and sections of. The eproms with the blue dots hold the Forth language for the TMS7040 processor. The processor can be accessed over a serial port to have the speech process say the library. Also can create programs to modify or manipulate the library, and incorporate external I/O lines.

Here are the manuals I have. Looking for a copy?

These are the manuals for the voice processor and demo vocabulary.
There is a separate manual for operation of the Speech Education Module demonstration board.
I did find an on line manual for the TMS7040 processor, used to run the demo board.

One thing the demo board allows you to do is access copy portions of the speech vocabulary to a workspace and edit the co-efficients. Change the pitch, inflection, speed.... Seem to remember one guy at my work cut and pasted bits of existing words together and make new words.
How cool would it be to have the board say "To Infinity and Beyond" while sounding like Tim Allen?

NICE STUFF! Very interesting board, definitely a collector's item, be careful with your experiments ;-)

Definitely interested. There might be various versions, as I recall having a document with a similar cover, but the word list you inserted earlier in this post was a page that I had never seen before. You could replace your VM61002 with an EPROM (some connections might change, be careful) with any of the other ROM's that can be found online (see my previous message).

;-) That would be nice.
As said, a very interesting board, nice that you can change all kinds of parameters! But actually for creating new words, maybe with a lesser quality, one could also think of using speech synthesizers like the SC01 or the very well known SP0256-AL2 (GI), which contains pauzes and all allophones to create words. So, very small slices that are glued together to create words and sentences (which of course can easily be done with a microcontroller). The "canned speech" of the VM6100X and it's speech processor, same for the Digitalker, are of a much better quality (but limited, where with these allophone processors, you can create any word you want, although it is always a bit English-ish).

Will copy and post speech processor and rom manuals, might take a week or two. One co-worker (30 years ago) was an instructor at the local community collage. We used lots of electronic components, and always had vendors and reps coming and going. He probably got the TI rep to give him this, but never used it.

Wow,that was a nice gift, good you safeguarded it!
Take your time, it's all 30+ years old, but really looking forward to have a look at the documents ;-)
