Good day!

I received a 110V 50Hz 300W Mini Heat Gun. It was my fault that I didn't see that it is rated at 110V. Our standard here is 220V. The heat generated by the gun is uncontrollable, maybe because I have plugged it in a 220V outlet. So I opened the heat gun an see that it only has few components.

1. Switch
2. Motor
3. 2W10 Bridge Rectifier
4. Heat Element

I was wondering if I can make it compliant with 220V getting parts from our hair dryer with a source selector (110V or 230V). I opened it up and there are many components:

1. Carli MPX40 240V Capacitor with a 1M Ohm Resistor
2. 6A4 MBE Diode
3. Heating Element (Thicker)
4. Diodes (1N5395)
5. Motor with Capacitors

Or can I swap the heating element to make it thicker?

Replace the bridge rectifier with a single 600V 5A rectifier diode. The motor and heating element will then only receive 110V RMS.

Unfortunately not.
It will receive 155V rms (220V/√2)
Double the voltage and the load will dissipate four times the power, add a half-wave rectifier and it will only do so for half the time.
Power will be double what it should be.

Yes, I stand corrected. It must have been an age related mental hiccough!
