6v charger

How is it possible to charge a 12v battery with a 6v voltage regulator rectifier charger?? I know few people who are using a 6v voltage regulator rectifier charger to charge their motorcycle 12v battery and they are using for more than 2 years !!! I don't know how logically that's possible to...
