how do i wire a timer into a 240v supply to start and stop a water pump

Is it not obvious that more information is needed?

Have you already purchased the timer? If so, what model is it?

Is the water pump an existing thing? If so, is there already a contactor to turn it on/off? What are the specs on the motor?

How often do you want to start and stop the pump? Is it solely based on time, like a sprinkler system, or is there more to it? I.E. is this to fill a tank? Do you need it to stop when the tank is full?

I'm not going to pull any more teeth getting information out of you. If you really want help, you'll provide all the information you have.
