What is the difference between Z and ESR?

and when you say ESR, do you mean Effective Series Resistance?

 

Sorry to be ambiguous. Series combination of a resister and inductor connected in series with the parallel combination of a resister and a cap.

How would I calculate equivalent series resistance, and the impedance of this ckt. How do they differ, what contributes to what?
