Hi,
I have a burnt 500A fuse (taken from an outgoing of substation). When i chked it from inside it had silica for arc extinguishing and metal strips as a replacement of fuse wire. Can anyone explain what is the difference between using a metal strip and using a fuse wire.
please help me...which is better of the two?

There are several ways to make a fuse. The foil strip has characteristics similar to the fusible wire - http://www.electronics-manufacturers.com/products/electrical-electronic-components/electrical-fuse/
