So my drive has been having issues closing and opening along with playing some but not all dvd's and not burning.
Decided to clean the mechanism and put some appliance oil in there. The motor that drives the cd/dvd sounds like bearings are freely running about.
I open it up and its only half full of bearings.
Is this some sort of centrifical force thing or what? can you explain this to me?

Edit: I figured its to slow the speed on the motor so when you open it, it doesnt keep spining.
Drive opens great. still plays only some and still cant burn

 

As far as I know, just by peeking in several drives, there is no oiling but greasing what is required.

Have you checked for obvious dirt of any kind in way of optics / laser?
