I posted this on a Windows forum and got no response. So I figured I would try here.

I currently have Direct TV with Tivo. I understand that Windows Media Center does not work with Direct TV.

What I really would like to do is give cable / satellite altogether and just record over the air using WMC. Believe it or not, I don't yet have and kind of HD receiver so I have no idea what kind of reception I will get.

I would like to start small and just buy a 2 tuner card. But I would like to have a backup plan and move to cable (Vios) should my reception be poor.

I see there are "cablecard" tuners. I understand I will need one to record from cable. Do any of the cablecards also record over the air broadcasts?

If no one gives an answer here you might try

From Amazon: This was just a search on ATSC QAM card; could be many better cards out there.

ATSC for OTA (over the air)
QAM for the Old Analog Cable Channels (Many Cable systems are moving to digital)

Note: I am just a newbie reading the stuff myself; so, confirm my info.
Note: My computer is old; So, I am planning on using an USB unit or an LCD display with built in ATSC tuner.
Note: I know little to nothing about Windows Media Center.
