math sucks and slows one down.
when I got into electronics, the slide rule and scientific notation was all there was.
vacuum tubes were all there was. there was rumor of transistors finally being used for commercial use. math still sucked.
perusing through these calculator lists will show that indeed the calculations needed are not simple and certainly not so few in number that they can all be memorized.
quick, without looking it up...what is this one for?
sure we can instantly figure a needed value for a current limiting resistor or how many turns of wire for a desired inductance, even the values needed for a RC value can become second nature. But why should we be expected to spend more time researching and computing circuit parameters than it will take to build the darn thing and get on with it?
If however, a person is pursuing an engineering degree they had damn well better be familiar and proficient with all math involved and use these calculators for reference and proving computations ONLY!
do NOT fear the math. Math is your friend, math is your buddy.
