I have couple capacitors I removed from an old computer (1980s) that reads...

    4700 uF 63V
    CAN NOT ISOLATED
    MADE IN UK
    8345

Can someone tell me what "CAN NOT ISOLATED" means? It can't be used by itself?

Hi,It means that the metal can of the capacitor is not electricaly isolated from the internal structure.... Therefore if it is used with a capacitor clip, you should not damage the insulating material....Daniel.

It is likely that electrolytic capacitors that old are no longer good. The electrolyte in them dries out.

I'm not sure, but I think that in caps such as those, the can is connected to the negative pole of the capacitor.
