What purpose does a resistor serve, and how do I calculate the needs of a resistor for a particular project?

I am new to circuitry, and I am designing a wonderful product for blind dogs. I have found an investor, but he wants me to design the prototype before he pays for the patent.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I will be posting a handful of other questions regarding the assembly of my prototype circuit.

A resistor stores the sound coming out of the speakers. A higher value resistor can store more sound.

    Hello,

Without knowing the circuit, we can not give you any advice.
    What is your intention?
Why open 3 threads with greatly the same content?

Bertus, I only pasted a particular piece of information to explain my intentions... My questions all all different! I am designing a dog ball that produces noise for 120 seconds and then stops. Its for my blind dog. I will attach a picture of the circuit diagram that I am basing my design around, with only a few minor changes.
