My high school electronics teacher used to make huge Tesla coils. He liked to demonstrate their radiated energy by holding a florescent light tube and having it light up from a few feet away. After a while, his hair would stand on end and he looked like the mad professor. He also loved to zap us with his finger. That was one way to get our attention!
