this device was given to me. all i know is that it came out of a substation. it has lots of usefull parts in it. just wondering what it does and how it works? also, what is the brown disk shaped thing on the back? its kinda rough like sandpaper. thank you!

Think it is a null divider..
It's just missing it's nuclear power supply.

Or it could be what those other guys said.....

Think the brown disc thing is either a stone age hard drive platter..or a variable resistor.

Either way a sweet find,it's begging to be torn apart.

I believe that brown disk to be a really high power selenium rectifier. Rectifiers were the first electronic components, all the way back to tubes and cat whiskers.
