Test a production unit. Troubleshoot the same and direct its repair (others will probably do the work).

Skill with volt meters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies.

Able to read understand and follow written instructions. Able to ask for help when help is required.

Build prototypes. Build test fixtures.

Keep good notes.

Most importantly, make your boss look good.

I have several techs working for me and that is what I look for. For an entry level candidate such as yourself it is best to bring something to the interview to impress me, something you built out of your own interest.
A very good description. Might I add the following.
Know components, be able to find and understand data sheets.
Basic familiarity with schematic generation software and simulators.
Computer skills. Microsoft Excel, Word, create a simple web page.

Zomming out for a long view, it looks like a personal contact might be your best chance of landing that technician job. You need to get good a "technician stuff" and be known for it by others. The amateur radio club is a great place to start. Think about whether there are similar opportunities in your area.

In the words of my mother (and she was correct) "Do what you love and the money will follow."

That will come with on-the-job experiences.

Maybe someone could come up with some ideas more specific to your situation if you would post your real location instead of something foolish.

While you used this forum on occasion, you can give back in the troubleshooting and homework areas.

This will increase some marketable skills. The same with your radio club.

Good luck in your endeavor.
