Cheaper one is for you if you do not solder BGA's

The expensive one can do IR soldering for SMD's and BGA's and is hell lot better if you ask me.

What "exactly" do you plan to use it for?
    Soldering?
    Desoldering?
    BGA rework?
    SMT rework?
    Usage volume? (daily? weekly?)
Is this for a company or personal use?

I have a cheaper version of the Best 968 unit, it serves my needs for hand soldering SMD boards. I have done tiny 8 lead BGA's with it... larger devices may be possible by playing around the edges but I have not tried it.

I too bought a cheap-o hot air gun similar to that 968 but a bit different style.. The plastic shroud around the heat tube melted within minutes of use at lead free soldering temps..
    Its still usable though.

You've just gotta use oven gloves while soldering though? :D
