I am in need of help on the following,

I need to come up with a push button volume control

The PIC16F676 needs to recieve an input and SPI to the MCP6S21 and change the gain. I can only use one input and cycle through 3 of them, 1, 5 and 10, or whatever I feel like changing it to. It would act like this, boot up as 1, if the push button is pushed then change to 5, if push button is pushed again, change to 10, if push button is pushed again, change to 1, and so forth, cycle through just like a payphone. yes a payphone, do they still make these?

I am not very good at programming and was wondering if anyone has done this or has similar ideas that I could look at and try to figure this out.

Let me know your ideas, thanks.
