The little instrument panel regulator for my 66 F100 has gone out, and the little buggers are $35+ apiece. I saw a video about making one here:

I'm a rookie a this, but it seems simple, and I thought I would give it a go. The author gives enough information about the voltage regulator but only says that the capacitor is 10uf electrolytic and nothing about the voltage. No Radio Shack store anywhere around me has the 7808 regulator, so I'm going to have to order online. A few questions:

    1. What voltage capacitor do I need?

    2. The author says that the gauges are 6 volt, but with the load of the several gauges in the panel, the 8 volt regulator is the right one. Is that sound reasoning? Does that mean that a 6 volt unit would not be sufficient?

    3. Any suggestions for online sources?

    All suggestions and input appreciated.
