Given a standard bjt voltage divider biasing configuration, is it possible to calculate base current given only the resistances and supply voltage without doing a thevenin conversion?

Many thanks in advance for your help

Sure. You never HAVE to do a thevenin conversion. It may or may not be the easierst way to analyze a particular circuit, but it is never required (unless the problem statement says otherwise ;) )
