Varistor Ratings?

    Hello, I am trying to understand Varistor, (or MOV) ratings. This guy asked exactly the question I want to ask, but nobody really answered his question. So I am posting it again as my question, can someone please help me understand MOV ratings?

    My purpose is to follow <snip> I want to create a capacitive power supply with all of the safety measures.

    I suppose this varistor would be appropriate for my 120V rms circuit. It has a 130V rms rating, (whether that is the clamping voltage or some other rating, it is unclear to me, that is why I came here to ask). Here is the datasheet

    How about we make this a legal discussion by understanding that I will be using an isolation transformer?

    Sorry. The apnote and your question still says transformerless PS. You can start another thread with a different, transformer-based design.
