A while ago i bought a few ceramic resonators from RS which i thought were 4mhz, although what they say on the side is 400 then a little m with a circle round it, then a dot and then a lower case t, what does this mean? does it mean its a 400mhz?

It is more probable they are 400 KHz, without discarding the possible 4.00MHz you suspect.

Try to identify it... I was going to post a link but shows some weird data from my browser and operative system. Better try a Google search "images" "resonator" "400khz"

The square-case 400kHz resonators (usually blue, orange or yellow) are extremely common and used in IR remote controls.
