I also never soldered anything on a PCB board before (well I did once, but I was young, and forgot how), not to mention my soldering skills need work. I mostly work with protoboards.

Is there any good guide to give some pointers on how to do this? Thanks.

There are videos on youtube that could help. I mostly use stripboard for soldering up projects. It's an easy transition from protoboards.

Well, if you are talking about PCB design,

here is a good reference to alot of the points of design:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Practical_Electronics/PCB_Layout

and a good book if you are looking to do it for a living, or impress someone of the opposite sex that is involved in the industry:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0071350160/dynamixtechnolog

Are you trying to start a company using automated equipment or are you looking to start as a hobbyist?

Is there a software package you want to learn to use for design of layout?
