Using AC for a 220V DC solenoid

The only time I tried it was to keep the voltage down.

Some of the 120vac coils pulled in at 30 vdc. Full wave rectified 120v seemed too high. I don't remember the details, but half wave with a small capacitor seemed right at the time.:confused:

The one I'm making the driver for is a 70vdc coil. Half wave won't pull it in. Full wave might over heat it.
