Most of the missiles today have sea skimming which means radar wont pick it up until its 50kms from the ship. After that missile will start evasive maneuvers which means changing directions and spiraling around. And as alphacliff said i except people to realize by 2020 that mirror coat will basically render laser useless.Just search for RBS15 and imagine it has mirror coating.

Mirror coat sounds good, but there is an assumption that it will be optical, or some other planned frequency. It is currently impossible to cover all the bands. And stealth, which is partly what you are talking about, is expensive.

Like it or not, directed energy weapons are the future. The speed of light advantage will see to that. Weapons and countermeasures has always been a ongoing game.

Russians were showing off a couple of years ago a unit to deploy an anti ship cruise missile that is basically the size of a shipping container.

This is basically targeted toward China and Iran. But anyone else who wants it, can buy it.

And US Navy is shit scarred of anti ship cruise missiles. That is why US Navy coastal operations are always from over the horizon. If Marines have to take a beach... they will have some air cover, but no naval gunnery for support.
