Case style similar to a 1N4454 except gray (no clear glass).

I came across it while cleaning.

I've seen similar threads, but I don't remember where. I'm not familiar with this number system for components.

Can you take a picture of the component and post it here?

I could, but while I have macro on my camera I don't have micro. It is very small, pretty typical of most small signal glass body diodes.

This is more a matter of idle curiosity. That and I might learn how to look up a different part number system

A micro lens is definitely on my Xmas list this year.

 

I have definitely seen a reference to Motorola deliberately using their own numbers to deter unauthorised servicing, I’m sure it was in a book, somebody with insider knowledge was giving the alternative numbers. Naturally I can’t find it now.

 

Looks like a 400mW zener. I've seen tons of grey glass Motorola ones.

Run a few mA through it reversed, and see what its zener voltage is.
